Exploring Malaysia ( KL )...

So on the third day of my trip, I went to KL and stayed in Federal Hotel. Well it's not the best hotel I've 've ever been to but it's okay considering it's just a one night stay :)

The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Bukit Bintang. An area for shopping and entertainment district in KL. There are a total of at least 3-4 shopping centers around where I stayed and it is also surrounded with many yummy food courts like in Jalan Alor and Lot10 which I will talk about soon :)

So after we checked in the hotel, we waste no time and went straight to Pavillion Mall, the biggest in Bukit Bintang area. All of the branded stuffs are located in this mall; Prada, Bvlgari, Hermes, Tory Burch, you name it ;p But this time I brought my parents to the top floor of the mall where it is called Japan City.

One of my favorite thing to buy is Rusco. Colourful and tasty Baguettes originated from Japan.  They have a wide variety of flavours; Chocolate, Caramel, Orange, Green Tea, Black Sesame, Honey, Raspberry and Blueberry. The product itself is quite pricey, but it's definitely worth a try cause apart from Japan, only Malaysia got the stores.

Rusco
After walking in the mall, night time came and I took Bebski to experience the culinary in a food court called Lot10. It is located at the basement of Lot10 shopping mall and this place over a range of cuisines from Malaysian, Korean, Chinese and even Western food such as Pork Knuckle!

One of the famous dish to try here is the Char Kuey Teow with Duck egg. The rice noodle is still chewy, stir fried with duck egg, chinese sausage and prawns. So good!

Char Kuey Teow with Duck egg 12.50 RM
Bebski got the Bakut Teh which is another must try dish in Lot10. It came in a small bowl with rice as the side. The soup is rich of flavour and light at the same time. They also got a choice of fatty and lean pork meat for the soup.

Lean Pork Bakut Teh 11.50 RM
We also tried Spicy Pan Mee - Homemade curly Noodle in Spicy Prawn and Mushroom Broth with mince porl, lettuce, crispy anchovies, beef balls, fried tofu and shitake mushroom. I can literally finish the whole big bowl by myself, its that good!

Spicy Pan Mee 11L50 RM
Now, the highlight of Bukit Bintang. It is the well-known Jalan Alor for its streetfood haven! The entire street is lined with hawker stalls and also restaurant selling mainly Chinese hawker fare from Rice and Noodle dishes, BBQ chicken wings, Seafoods, Loklok and snacks such as Chestnut, Crispy Chiken Skin, Murtabak and not to forget Durian! ;p

One of the many stalls that caught my attention is Lok Lok - a variant of hotpot meal or steamboat, except that the food ingredients are skewered and then dipped into boiling water / grilled / fried and then dipped into a variety of sauces.

That night, we don't feel like having steamed stuff, so we got them grilled ;p We got Pork Belly skewer, Grilled Lamb skewer, Duck Skewer, Enoki and bacon Skewer and Beef skewer.

Lok Lok Grilled Skewer 23RM
Bebski & I are a sucker to pork belly or anything to do with pork. We saw this man grilling heaps of thinly sliced pork belly, so we went to the shop and they are making pork belly jerky! They also sell them in a fried rice and so we stopped by to it out !

So we got the Pork belly jerky Fried rice which has that smoky wok aroma which we loves, we also ordered the BBQ chicken wings which was good and Pork skewer, yummeh! I really do pity my tummy :P

Fried Rice 10RM, Chicken wings 5RM, Pork Skewer 7RM.
After this meal, we also got 2 boxes of Mao San King Durian and ate them in the hotel room. Ssshh, it is not actually allowed. But oh well, we are asian after all, anything would do lol!

The next morning, our last day in KL, we had breakfast with my parents in Toast Box. A very crowded breakfast stall located at Pavillion Mall Food court. It is always packed with people queuing for breakfast. They have an array of toast serves with 2 half-boiled eggs and a choice of either coffee/tea. They also got Laksa, Mee Siam, Chicken Curry and Small packed of Nasi Lemak.

Their prices are quite cheap I would say and the laksa is definitely a must try from this shop! Unfortunately that day they were not ready to serve the laksa yet but trust me, its a must get :)

From my past visit to Jalan Alor. Tried Sai Woo Restaurant and got the grilled Sting ray, Char kuey teow, boiled lala, X.O Fried rice and BBQ pork Chop

For dessert, we went back to Pavillion mall and got this Mini Kurtosh. Unlike the one we have in Sydney, the kurtosh here is only half the size and they provide a wide range of flavours from sweet and savoury kurtosh. Below I got the Salmon and cheese Kurtosh and also Choco Peanut kurtosh. Two thumbs up for the two!! ^^

That concludes my culinary trip in KL. Next time I would venture more outside Bukit Bintang area and into Petaling st and other area :)

Exploring Malaysia ( Genting Part )...

I haven't wrote any entries ages ago since my Wedding day. Yup, I got married on the 16th May 2015 ;p The party was Uhmazing and it was an unforgettable day for mee :) Not long after that, my hubby & I decided to postpone our so called Honeymoon til the end of the year as we were struggling with our visa to go back to Sydney. Luckily, we got friends in Penang and so we planned a trip to Genting-KL-Ipoh-Sitiawan and Penang :)

So here is the Journeyy...
We arrived in KLIA late at night and we were picked up by the car from Genting and we reached Genting 12:30 in the morning. I went to Genting many times already but that was the first time I went with Bebski. The weather was not as cold as I remembered.

We stayed in Grand Genting Hotel, It looks like an old building but actually they just renovated 7-9th Floor. The room was comfy and was pretty good and spacious :)

After putting all of our luggage, dad was starving and so we went to Old Town White Coffee for late night supper. We got the Seafood Hor fun, Chicken Noodle Soup and dad ordered the French Toast. Mom loves the hor fun but to me, it lacks flavour. I need to add soy sauce and chilli padi to enhance the flavour.

Our tired and sleepy faces ;P Love them sooo muchh :)

Second day in Genting. Hubby & I were so excited to explore Genting. He went there 8 yrs ago anf I went 2-3 yrs ago. We were curious as to what changes happened since we came. The view from our room is magnificent and the weather was perfect too.

We had breakfast in The Bakery. The only decent bakery they got in Genting ;p Dad craved their croissant and so we went for a quick bite. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, we spent 67RM for all that.

After breakfast, we decided to part our ways with mom and dad, we went exploring First World Area. See, Genting Highland is veryyy spacious, it takes up the whole mountain and They built so many different kind of hotels and theme parks. Unfortunately, they are expanding and renovating their outdoor theme park and so we don't have much to do there T.T

The look of their indoor theme park is still the same as last time I went but they took out the food court and change it to Kids playground.

Roaming around with half empty tummy, we came across this Market Food Street Stall. Those meats on stick and fried stuffs caught my attention right away. There goes all my diet all this time before the wedding, I am blowing all off in this trip ;p

We bought the Fried Durian, Sausage stick, Fishball Stick, Fried Sweet potato and Cheese Dorayaki ;p

With food in our hands, we walked further into the theme park and Bebski asked me to go into Ripley's Believe it or Not showroom which I never got the chance to go.
Entrance Fee is about 47RM for two adults. I do recommend visiting this place if you got nothing else to do there ;p

After spending almost an hour here, we went for lunch with my parents again in The Eatery. It's a small hidden food court near Grand Genting, just behind the elevator. The foods were pretty yummy except the Hainanese chicken rice ;p Dad got Kum Hiong Crispy chicken rice with a strong belacan taste, I got the chef recommended dish - Cantonese Ying Yong Wan Tan Hor, they got both flat rice noodle and crispy noodle smothered in thick egg gravy soup with combination meat. It was delish!! Mom for the Pineapple Fried Rice which was pretty standard and it got quite strong curry powder taste in it.

We had Herbal Jelly for dessert. It was cooling and silky. The Herbal Jelly itself has a bit of bitterness to it and you gotta enjoy it with some sugar syrup poured on top. 10RM for the small bowl.
But trust me, it you like Herbal Jelly, you would love this. Bebski had 3 bowls in total during our trip ;p

To digest the big lunch, we went to Chin Swee Temple. It is a very big temple located on the way to Genting Highland itself. If you have no car to drive down, around Genting, they got taxi service to drop you off and even wait for you but you have to negotiate on the price. We paid 100RM just to go to the Temple and To Gohtong Jaya for some Durian :)

I do recommend everyone visiting Genting to drop by the Temple. It is so beautiful and the scenery is breath taking from there. They got Turtle Pond below the temple and there were so many people throwing coins and making wish in that pond :)

If you think that my trip involves a lot of eating, you are totally right. Our main purpose of this holiday is more to do a culinary than anything else ;p Our second stop is to Gohtong Jaya, it is even further below from the Temple. Here is a street full of foods. We stopped in this bakut Teh place and had their famous Bakut Teh and also Crispy Sliced Pork Belly cooked in sweet and savoury sauce. Not to forget, we got our Mao San King Duriannn :) Gosh I love Duriannn hihi ;P

After that meal, we went back up to Genting Highland and went around the Casino and walk around again to digest that much foods. Dinner time came and there are a lot of Marrybrown fast food scattered in the whole Genting and the place was almost always full of people so Bebski & I decided to give it a shot. We got the Chick-A-Fillet box which includes 2 chicken pieces in black pepper sauce, a scoop of creamy potato salad and chips.

That is pretty much how we spent our second day. The plan was to stay 3 nights in Genting and then take bus straight to Penang, but we got too bored in Genting that we decided to go to KL the next day and stay there.

So early in morning, we got ready and had a quick bite. There is this Yumcha place in Genting where they sell Sesame balls and Pork Buns in a small stall outside the restaurant. Mom bought quite a lot for us waiting for lunch time. We are having all-u-can-eat buffet in Coffee Terrace but they are not open until noon.

We had lunch in Coffee Terrace before we go to KL. The foods were not as good as it used to be, but it was quite affordable for 37RM per person during lunch :) They offer a wide variety of foods from Malay, Chinese and Western Selections and they got Salad, Fruit and Desserts sections as well.

Say Goodbye to Genting for now, we are going to KL for some more culinaryy :)

Kin By Us, Macquarie

A very late post from meee since I visited Kin By Us back in March :) A quick Intro about the place, it is owned by the couple Uel & Shanelle, one of the contestant in My Kitchen Rules and what interest me to visit their place is their Asian brunch menu style..

It was my last day again in Sydney and I can't leave Sydney before I tasted what they have to offer ... Reached the place at 11:15AM with Mr.Wjt and luckily we don't have to wait as my plane was 3 hours away ;p

We were greeted warmly by one of the staff, seated and I knew then what I want to order, as usual :) The interior of the place, I would say its pretty unique and different, the front area of the cafe is open wide without any door.

They also have this long table on the left side of the cafe which directly opposite the kitchen area where I can see Shanelle busy plating the food before serving :)

Tried Durian Affogato for the first time! It was a weird combination for some people, but to me, Durian is always been inviting to me. Mr.Wjt who is not a fan of durian thought that the combo works pretty well. Me on the other hand, I loved it. Its not that fake durian ice cream from a usual ice cream parlor, but rather, I can really taste the fruit and the Durian bits in it.

Durian Affogato $7
So after my thorough research to the place, I know that this Miso Yummy is a must order! The dish consist of Miso Salmon, Onsen eggs on top of a Sourdough and sesame Spinach. The salmon was perfect, pink in the middle and the flavour is just delish, especially with the gooey eggs, oh gosh, foodgasm, literally!!

Miso Yummy $17
I purposely arranged our arrival time at 11:15 so we can wait until they open their Lunch menu cause I really want to try their Snap, Crackle, Plop - Chicken Rice, Crispy chicken skin and Onsen eggs. The portion is not too big, it's nice to order as a side ;p The rice has a very nice fragrance, the chicken stock is very good and especially the crispy crackle, I wish they would've put more in :)

Snap Crackle Plop $10
Waffle belly - Caramel soy Pork Belly, Potato waffle, Onsen egg, Shrooms and Cabbage. I never tried potato pancake before and for me, its da bomb! All the waffles should made from potato now! It has that savoury umami note into it. The Pork belly was perfectly cooked and tender, and no need to comment on the eggs. Everything on the plate is just perfection. One tips from me for this dish.... Don't share! heheh :)
Waffle belly $17
I was very pleased with the foods and the service from Kin By Us :) Uel did our bill and we chat for a bit, I found out that Shanelle parents came from Bandung, a town next to my home town :) And I got pictures with themmmm .^^. What a great ending before I fly back to Jakarta ...
