Grain Bakery, Zetland

I came to notice this Organic bakery on my way to 5th earl in Rosebery. Grain Bakery baked their breads daily on site and you can literally smell the goodness coming out from that place. I always came here to get their croissant cause for me the best croissant is when its flaky and buttery on the outside and chewy and layered perfectly inside. And I'm so glad to announce that I've met my perfect croissant here in Sydney after going through heaps of bakery and cafe in search for the best croissant similar to Agathe in Melbourne.

So last Wednesday, the hubby and I decided to grab a quick breakfast here. I tried their Reubens on Rye. I fell in love with this simple sandwich! The fresh rye sourdough is so perfect covering those thick and generously portioned corned beef, oozing cheese with sauerkraut and pickles! Best combo everrrr :)

Below are the pic of my FAVE croissant in Sydney!!!

Worth a visit guys! A good bakery/cafe just need a perfect bread and they are settled!

Petal Met Sugar, Woolloomooloo

IF you love flowers and a sweet tooth, then Petal Met Sugar is the way to go.. A small dessert/florist shop in Woolloomooloo. :)

I don't usually like dessert rich in chocolate but this one is an exception! Chocolate Candy Bar is comprised of Chocolate flourless sponge, burnt butter ganache, praline feuletine crunch and sprayed milk chocolate mousse. All of the elements works perfectly together. This is probably my fave dessert there :)

Another unique flavour combination is Peach Oolong. Coconut mousse, Peach Oolong brulee, peach compote, coconut macaron and coconut glaze. I didn't fancy the flavour at the first bite, but it kinda make me wanna dig again and again ;P

Probably the prettiest white chocolate ball ever :) The Terranium ~~ Passion fruit and lime pannacotta, cocoa soils, edible flowers, lemon balm and the white chocolate is dusted with gold. It didn't only look pretty but it tasted soo good too ! the balance of the sweetness of the white choc, the tanginess of the pannacotta and the crunch texture of the soil. Perfect!

We were given a complimentary Dark chocolate with a dust of gold too! ^^

For more Info for their dessert, check out their website. They do cater for events like wedding, birthday parties, corporate, etc :)

Additional post ... Nearby PMS, there is this small bakery called Flour and Stone. And no joke, they got the bestttttt Lamington ever! The sponge are sooooo moist and the crisp of the coconut is nothing like u ever tasted in a usual lamington.

Jones the Grocer, Westfield Sydney

I Finally can tick off Jones the Grocer from my wishlist in 2014! Went here for brunch with Bebski, Mr.P and Mr.WJT on a saturday, I'm surprised there were no queue that time! We immediately got seated and I got the chance to look around and took some pictures of the place before ordering..

Apart from the tempting cakes an pastries display at the front of the restaurant, they also have a selections of groceries in shop, from cheeses, wines, tea & Coffee, and even gifts!

It was almost christmas when I came so they have a lot of Christmas goodies to choose from for gifts..

After looking around the place, we ordered the food and my food came first. I ordered the Beef Cheek Papperdelle - 8 hours braised beef cheeks with thick egg papperdelle, basil, tomato and gruyere. The beef cheek was a winner, tender and juicy. But that's about it. the pasta was undercooked and there was lack of flavour in the overall dish :(  I was quite disappointed cause the description of the dish did salivate me!

Beef Cheek Papperdelle $20
I also ordered a side of veggies just cause I'm in the mood for brocolli - stir fry with garlic and chilli

Broccoli side $8
Bebski ordered the Atlantic Salmon - Grilled Salmon fillet, Cherry tomatoes, coriander, mint, bean shoot and black bean vierge. I'm not a fan of Salmon so I only did try it a bit, it was well seasoned and the salad at the bottom was fresh too, the unfortunate thing is the salmon again was overcooked :( I was expecting the pink salmon in the middle like how they did in Masterchef hehe..

Atlantic Salmon $26
Mr. P got the Jones Burger - Wagyu Patty, melted Swiss cheese, Truffle mayo, pickles, mustard, caramelised onion and home made buns served with rustic chips.

Jones Burger $22
Mr.P also got a sides of smoked salmon which was delish! I don't remember how much they charge for the sides, but i think it's definitely worth it, unlike the atlantic salmon ;p

Mr.Wjt ordered the Corn Fritter - Corn & Sweet potato fritter with poached egg, rice noodle and thai herb salad and tamarind dressing. It was scrumptious! The perfectly poached egg yolk flows down the crispy pan fried fritters, the sweetness of the corn and the tangy salads, everything just works perfectly! I highly recommend the corn fritter! It may sounds simple on the menu, but the flavours definitely delivers!

Corn Fritter $17
And when you visited Jones the Grocer, you can't just miss the dessert time! Cause they are famous by their Sticky Date Pudding! The pudding was warm, smothered in the middle of caramel sauce and topped with Vanilla bean ice cream. Just a perfect end to finish my meal! We did share the dessert which is one of my slightest regret haha, next time, I'm definitely not sharing ;p

Sticky Date Pudding $10
The next dessert that we ordered was the Ice Cream Sandwich with salted peanut caramel & Milk chocolate parfait. The dessert was too heavy for me but it was a nice combination of ice cream, the saly caramel and also the crunch from the nuts, Mr.P loved it and he finished every bit of it!

Ice Cream Sandwich $10
That concludes my Jones the Grocer visit ! :)

East & West munchies

Lorraine's Patisserie

In Between THE free meals day on the 1st of July, My sister & I also got the chance to visit Lorraine Pattiserie, one of 50+ restaurants owned by Merivale. I heard so many time about this place and it's famous Mascarpone Cake. Lorraine's Patisserie is located within Ivy in Palings Lane. It is quite hidden but not hard to find :)
Such a pretty Shop :) Unfortunately the ambience inside the shop was so quite and everyone were busy baking ~~ I feel a bit unwelcome ;p

Assortments of cakes, pies and tarts

Finally I got to taste the Mascarpone cake which was so light and fluffy in the middle, with crisp coconut dacquoise on top and sliced strawberries in the middle. I know why this cake is sold for $8 a slice! It was so rich yet delicious and not too heavy :)

Mascarpone Cake $8
I also got the Rhubarb and Quince Tart which has a rich almondy / marzipany flavour that was too strong for me but the Pastry was just perfect and the rhubarb complements the dessert really well.
$6
As full as we were, we managed to finish half of both and take home the rest ;p What a day full of eating ~~

Fujipan

Now our feet took us to Chinatown area and we visited Fujipan, a Japanese Bakery. I've always loved their breads and cakes offerings. The dough are always soft and fresh, there are also a lot of selections to choose from.

I got the mini croissants which is $0.90 each, the pastry is airy and light! I also got the fillet fish bread, Taro pan, Red bean buns and their freshly baked Totoro bread filled with Custard Cream. Their green tea selections are my favourite as well but I didn't get them this time.
The price of their breads range from $1.20 - $3.80 which is very reasonably cheap :)

Definitely a great bakery to visit and try!

The Dough Collectives, Sydney

They closed down Galaxy World in George st city and the area was closed for a quite long time.. Then a month or two later, when I came back to Sydney after my Indo holiday, i went passed this new bread place.. Always passing by George st but never enter even once until last Sunday :)

It was really crowded and we decided to take a look at what's the hype..

They sell an array of breads, both sweet & savoury.. As well as schones and buns too. They also give away FREE Samples of each bread.. Can literally fill you up just by tasting the delicious bread :)

The Master Baker was baking when we were there making a new variety of bread. Unfortunately, it will take a long time before they could serve them ;( So I haven't got the chance to try them out..

I got the pumpkin & cream cheese bread and bebski got the sweetpotato & cream cheese bread. The dough is soooooo softtt!! Don't know how they do it but it was delicious! Will try other variants when I come back..!!
$5.50 ea
Drinks menu:

Too bad they don't have a place to sit and chat... otherwise, it will be a perfect hang out place!!

Second Visit
6th April 2014

Went here again with a couple of friends to introduce them to a very soft and chewy bread that Dough Collectives offer and to try out some other variants. Bought the Condensed milk and cream cheese bread and also the sweet potato and cream cheese bread.

Condensed milk & Cream cheese
To our disappointment, there are only cream cheese in the filling. We were expecting condensed milk flowing out as we bite into the bread.. But it is taste good though. Haven't got the chance to photo the Sweetpotato one as it was really yummy and everyone has a bite to it.

What I just noticed too is that they have a baking schedule everyday so that you'll know which bread is freshly baked :)
