Taste of Shanghai, World Square

Another visit to Taste of Shanghai, but this time I went to the one in World square. Luckily I came before dinner rush so the place still quite empty, otherwise, look at the prepared red chairs at the front for people to queue ;p

The menu that I ordered pretty much were similar to the ones I had in Bondi Junction food court except this Dumplings in Chilli Oil which I shud've found out sooner about this delicacies! The chilli oil did not provide any heat but rather just a mild chilli note for the boiled dumplings.

Wonton in Chilli Oil $9.80
Not to be missed, my favourite veggie dish of all time.... Green beans! The crunchy beans and the savoury note from the mince pork made this dish so perfect even just for nibbles... ~~

Green Beans with Mince Pork $15.80
We also tried the special fried rice, even though the menu said chilli, but there seems to be no chilli here whatsoever ;p Either way, the fried rice is full of flavour and also loved that smoky wok aroma in it!!
Special fried rice with Chilli $13.80
No words to describe XLB! It's just juicy pork goodness in wrapper <3 I was craving XLB that day and wanted to visit Din Tai Fung but when comparing the price with Taste of Shanghaii, we decided to just go back to the good old cheaper ones haha!

Xiao Long Bao $9.80
A new dish that we tried that day was the Braised pork Belly with preserved vegetables at the bottom and covered with this mushroom based probably oyster sauce? It came with an option of adding steamed buns for another $5 to soak up those sauces and have DIY braised pork bun hehe!

Braised Pork Belly Slices with Preserved Vegetables $22.80

Extra Bun $5
The pork was really tender and fatty. Not really a fan of the fat but the sauce are flavoursome! Bebski loved it as he looooves pork fat ;p The bun was steamed well, it was soft and provides a perfect cover for the delish braised pork and preserved veggies :)

Taste of Shanghai impressed me every time :)

New Shanghai Night, Ashfield

Last Sunday we were craving for some dumplings and so Mr.P suggested to have lunch in Ashfield, the home of all the yummy Shanghai cuisine which specialises in Dumplings. Our original destination was New Shanghai restaurant, but even at 1:30PM, the queue was horrendous! Luckily, he said that Shanghai Night serves great foods as well. So we head there and had to wait for around 15mins.

Looking at the menu, I was surprised to see how relatively cheap the price of the foods are. Will look in detail on the prices of each dish later on. On the right of the entrance is where the dumplings were made and then they were brought to the kitchen for the cooking process.

The place was not too big and most of the waitress can't really speaks English, I'm thankful that I know some Mandarin so I can communicate with them for ordering and other stuff ;p On my way to our table, I couldn't help but seeing all those big plates of foods on every table. So glad I came to this place. Cheap and Big Portion!

First off, we got Pork and Veggies Wonton soup, it came in a madium bowl of 10 pieces. The soup was okay, but the dumplings were great! The filling was generous :)

Pork and Veggies Wonton Soup $5.50
We also ordered the Stir Fry Handmade Noodle with pork and veggies, they used the thick and chewy Hokkien Noodle which I love and seasoned it with some mushrooms, bokchoy, oyster sauce and Sweet soy sauce. The dish itself is pretty oily but I can't help it but eating most of it cause I love thick and chewy noodle!!

$8.80
The must-not-miss dish in this place is the Fujian Fried Rice ! Almost every table got this dish. It was a combination of fish fillet, squid, prawns, baby corn,  mushrooms, snow peas, carrot and onions stir fry in a thick delicious gravy and poured on top of fried rice with scrambled eggs in it, sooooo addictive! The portion can literally feed 2 people if you don't order anything else.

Fujian Fried rice $13.80
Xiao Long Bao is something that you can't just miss in Shanghai Cuisine! It may be small in size but it's surely has a big punch of flavour and the juice/soup inside the dumplings just burst in your mouth adding more flavour to the already yummy pork fillings~~

8 pcs for $6.80!!!
We also ordered the Pan Fried Pork Bun with shallot which came in 9 pcs, big giant bun, again with generous filling, crispy on the bottom half of the bun and soft on the other half. Beware of the juicy soup that's inside these buns too!

Pan fried pork bun $8.80
Lastly, we had the Pork and Coriander steamed dumplings. You can choose the filling that you like and how you want to cook it and even the size! I ordered the small size which have 12 dumplings from memory.. There was nothing special with this dumplings but maybe it would be better to get them pan fried!

Pork and Coriander dumpling $8.80
Our bills came up to $12.80AUD per person and we were so full! Man, I should've visited Ashfield sooner for yummy and cheap Chinese foods ~~ Lesson Learnt..

Farewell for now but I will definitely be back ^^

Wang Wang Shanghai Silver Star, Kingsford

TGIF! Its Friday... Weekend... Since I started working full time, I really appreciate the value of weekends! The joy of not having to wake up early in the morning and drive an hour to work ~~ So as usual, I was too lazy to eat at home and I decided to have dinner in Kingsford and walk around the neighbourhood as I haven't been there for a long time.. (Well, technically I passed Kingsford everyday to work, just passing though ;P

Bebski is craving for wang wang, so we had dinner here and when we arrived, there was still a couple of table, Luckily! Cause as we were eating, there were a lot of crowds waiting for tables...

Personally for me, I think Wang Wang serves decent food with cheap price too considering the portion of food that you get! Its just that the wait for your order can be a long one when it is a full house!

The menu that is displayed here is not in the book menu, and it is not a big sign on the wall, so you have to keep an eye for it :) Ive tried the Stir fried sliced pork with Chinese cabbage which is good and has a lot of flavour :)

Typical Chinese Restaurant.. Soy sauce and Vinegar is a must.. Chinese always eat their dumplings with vinegar (Learnt it from my chinese friends ;p) For me, its always soy sauce with chopped chilli.. yummm~~

Bebski was starving as he hasn't eat since morning, but me, I've pigged out myself during lunch and yet I am still ordering lots and lots of food for just the two of us ;P
After 25mins waiting for our food, the deep fried calamari with salted egg yolk arrives! The calamari was fresh, has a good bite to it and the salted duck egg was really yummy coating the squid.. it was just a perfect dish to eat with rice. Its not very salty too..

Calamari with Salted Duck Egg $12.80
Next is the Clams in Black bean sauce. Bebski was hesitant to order the dish at first cause he's afraid that the seafood wouldn't be as fresh. BUT, the dish proves him wrong! It was fresh and the sauce is really flavoursome.. They use alot of garlic and ginger in the dish that makes it aromatic.. I cant get enough of the sauce.. Like Manu always says "give mo more sauceeee" :) It was really cheap too!

$ 10.50

Our third dish to arrive is Xiao Lung Bao or pork steamed dumplings? It was bigger than the dumplings in New Shanghai and the soup is not as hot so it wouldn't burn your tongue and throat hehe.. Was really yummy and I can really taste the ginger bits in it :)
6 for $6.50

Our last dish of the night issssss shredded pork with buns... The pork is cooked with spring onions, red capsicum and onions. Chin Kiang Vinegar is the first thing I can taste from this dish. Its a type of Chinese Black Rice Vinegar that has a distinct taste if u have ever cook with it, you'll know the taste :)
Enough from the sauce, it was a great dish!
$13. 80

This is how I like to eat them :) It would be great though if they could cut the buns slightly so we can put the fillings inside ^^

Overall dining experience..... Despite the wait for the food, everything tasted great! The service was awesome, That waiter I had tonight was exceptional. She was literally attending all the tables, taking order, seating people and bringing out the food!! They really need to hire more people. Poor waiter.. :) Four thumbs up for her!! She can still smile and was really friendly to everyone ...

With so much food ordered, we left 2 of the buns behind as we were so full!! I admit my habit of ordering way too much food for just two people T.T

Highly Recommended!

Taste of Shanghai, Westfield Bondi Junction

Its almost weekend and I was tempted so start weekend early by dining out and doing some window shopping with Bebski^^.. So after work yesterday, went home for a bit and we went to Bondi Junction for some shopping and eating :)

It was so unusual that Bondi Junction was not crowded at all and the parking was quite empty too.. Maybe everyone went to Moore park for Baseball League or smthng...
I'm craving for Xiao lung Bao so we decided to eat in Taste of Shanghai. The queue was quite long but we managed to get our order...

Oops the menu is too small. Sorry ,, bad photography ;P Overwhelmed with so much choice that I want to order all!

Dumpling making station. . . Her hands was so fast! Im amazed...

They also have an array of foods displayed on their counter which made me more salivating while waiting for the queue!!

Ok, So we've made our choice, well more of my choice ;P
The pork filling is well-portioned with the dumplings pastry. It is well pan fried too with some soup inside. yummy!
Pan Fried Pork Dumplings $9
The best Xiao Lung Bao for me personally. The pastry is thin and soft. the pork filling was similar to the dumplings in my taste but no complain. It was really delicious.. The soup inside is not as hot too!
Pork Xiao Lung Bao $4
First and second bite, this dish was tasty. But afterwards the strong XO sauce just hit your palate.. Too much XO sauce for me and I think more shredded pork will be good :) We ended up not finishing this dish :(
Chinese Stir fried rice cake with X.O sauce and shredded pork $12.80
My favourite veggies of all times ~~~ Green Beans! Crunchy crunchy! not too salty as KCR green beans and have a good crunch with the addition of the fried shrimp and fried shallots too. This is a must buy dish!
String Beans with Dried shrimps and soy sauce $11.80

Bebski's favourite menu! The pork filling was quite small though and the soup inside was really hot, so becareful :)
Pan Fried Pork Bun $9.80
Overall, I love this place! Never get tired of eating dumplings from New Shanghai! NSH Zhang!^^

Yummy8. Sussex St

I was looking through Groupon website when I saw the voucher for all-you-can-eat dumpling with one bowl of noodle shared between two. Without thinking twice I just press bought!
So we went out on Thursday night to have a bit of shopping and eating ^^

My other passion besides korean foods ~~ it's dumplings indeed :)
They served us with some starter/chinese banchan probably?hehe.. There were boiled potato sprinkled with spring onions, steamed pumpkin, braised beef brisket which is very tender and melt in the mouth yummy and rich of five spice herb! The last starter is kinda like a sweet sticky rice cake :)

The dumplings offered are pretty standard; chicken and mushroom, pork and chives, vegetables dumplings, pork and cabbage dumplings.

The first free noodle bowl we ordered was the Mince noodle. The soup is rich and thick. I quite like this dish.. it will be perfect with chopped chilli! but unfortunately they only have vinegar and soy sauce on site. Its even hard to ask for chilli as the waitress doesn't really speak English T.T

The second bowl is spare ribs noodle. The soup is lighter than the mince one and lacks flavour in my opinion. It's pretty bland ;P

Overall dining experience here, well because it was so cheap, I can't really complain.. I quite like the dumplings even though they tasted like regular dumplings. The noodle too, they are quite alright.. I guess if ever I come back here, it must be bexause of another voucher :P

What do you think reader? ^^
